R. Okpara Danjuma

For the past thirty years, Danjuma has engaged in what could be considered a tri-focused career. Education, social services, and the arts have been the professional arenas in which Danjuma has served his community.

The educational endeavors include educational support services, such as Upward Bound, Extended Opportunity Programs, and the teaching of political science. The grassroots engagement through social services afforded Danjuma the opportunity to serve youth in group homes, residential treatment centers, and juvenile detention centers. He has also counseled adults in domestic violence programs, and mental health services.

When not engaged in either of the aforementioned, Danjuma is writing poetry, producing spoken word and cultural events or preparing for a performance. The arts have been a lifetime labor of love.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Danjuma grew up in the historical Treme area. Experiencing life through the Treme provided the fertile ground for love of the arts.

Danjuma earned a Master of Arts in Political Science and is completing PhD studies in Philosophy and Religion. Danjuma currently resides in Oakland, CA.
