In an effort to provide creative solutions to the difficult challenges many youth and families face, Unity Concepts Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, was founded in the fall of 1994.
Led by R. Okpara Danjuma, the founders created Unity Concepts, Inc. after serving many years as professionals in the arts, education, and social services arenas and concluding more creative approaches were needed to effectively help improve the lives of youth considered “at-risk” or severely emotionally disturbed.
Unity Concepts, Inc. offers mental health counseling, program administration and design, and after school program consulting.
In the summer of 2005, Unity Concepts, Inc. presented its first cultural program, which was a series of Jazz and spoken word performances by some of the Bay Area’s finest artists. In 2006 and 2007, Unity Concepts, Inc. went on to produce and stag a theatrical presentation of spoken word and music, “Oakland Has Spoken.”
The goal of Unity Concepts, Inc. is to provide a continuum of services to engage the imagination of youth and families, which is the center of hope and resiliency. In a world that can at times be a cold and distant place, Unity provides warmth.
